One of the 'NEC big two' events each year, the Restoration show is subtly different but just as entertaining. Our Branch Liaison Officer Sue Akrill walks you round...

After a long and often gloomy start to the year where most of our cars have been mothballed, March brings the anticipation of the first NEC show for us enthusiasts. The Practical Classics Car and Restoration Show. This show could be called a relative ‘newbie’ having only run since 2014 and at that time simply called Practical Classics Restoration Show, but in these few years from small beginnings it has gained amazing proportions that are still going from strength to strength!

This show really is what is says on the ‘tin’, for anyone of you out there who is intending anything from a full re-build from chassis up, to the ‘tinkering’ mechanic. If you are either of these or just somewhere in between then this show is a definite must visit event for you. Although its not just about oil and spanners, it covers so much more with practical seminars dedicated to upholstery, welding and how to do a professional respray job.

There is a Live Stage event over the three days usually building up a classic that has typically been a long-time off road none runner, so the excitement is to see if this can be driven off the live stage at the end of the show to the thunderous applause and cheers from the audience!

Or have a Dream Ride with the Sporting Bears Charity in one of their many cars. There is just so much going on you will be spoiled for choice!

This show is where to get all the information you will ever need, with a Hall almost fully dedicated to spares, accessories and every tool and piece of equipment you will ever need for your project.

There is always an eclectic mix of restored and none restored classic vehicles, some of which you would wonder how could go from a veritable ‘lace curtain’ to a thing of gleaming beauty!
Every restorer or potential restorer is prepared to wax lyrical about their passion for their project, it’s a happy, newsy show for everyone.
We have been there from the beginning when the first Restoration Show was born. So are proud to be a presence with our MMOC Show Stand as this is a totally different show for us to put on. Obviously in November it’s usual to have a theme and cars that compliment that theme, but our aim on this one does not necessarily have the usual shiny line up. Our aim here is to get down and dirty, hands on with a couple of members perhaps working on their own cars. Some things are so much easier to tackle after you have physically watched someone doing it, but it doesn’t stop there, we also often throughout the day run our own Minor ‘Master Class’. Every one of us aims to help you with your questions and any problems that you may have encountered or that are ongoing in your personal re-build or maintenance schedule, it could be something quite complicated like a wiring loom or as simple as tuning your timing. It really doesn’t matter what the question is there will always be help and guidance available, not forgetting all our other visitors to the stand who will just love to swap success stories or those not quite successful with you!!
